hi, i'm vanessa :)
Family photographs taken by the amazing Kerlyn Van Gelder Photography.
Thank you for stopping by!
I am born and raised in the great state of Texas and absolutely love it here. I am a 26 year old wife and mother to two. My husband and I have been married for 4+ years and together for 7+ years. We have two amazing children. Ava, who is 5 and a badass cheerleader and Ezra, who is 2 and the sweetest little guy you will ever meet. I love my family, very much, and hope that one day I can quit my 8-430 and work photography full time. Don't worry!!! My 8-430 does NOT stop me from being at your birth or setting up a dreamy session with you <3
I started getting serious about photography towards the end of 2015, and as someone who is creatively challenged, I fell in love. I mean, deep love, love that doesn't quit and wants to keep going. So here am I, pursuing something I never knew I would be good at, but am good at and I love it.
Now, how I fell in love with birth is a whole other story. With my daughter, I wanted a water birth but was too scared and intimidated to even look into it. So I had a normal, non-emergency induced birth with her and it was delightful and I loved it. With my son, I was going to a normal OB and was going to settle for a hospital birth, until I watched "The Business of Being Born." That documentary changed my life. *Thank you Ricky Lake* I was 32 weeks pregnant with my son looking into switching from an OB/Hospital Birth to a Midwife/Birth Center Birth and I did it. I had my water birth and it was AMAZING. From there I knew I needed to be involved in birth so I started researching doula training. I started doula training, and had a few births under my belt and did all of my research, and turned in all of my assignments when I had the first opportunity to document a birth for a doula family. Thats actually probably where the seriousness came from (I'm telling ya, Dec 2015). I wanted to shoot births. I NEEDED to shoot births. I needed to provide families with photographs that highlighted the birth of their little one and I LOVED it. I am never turning back. If I could shoot births all day, every day, I would and I am not afraid to admit it. Its not an unhealthy obsession ;)
Motherhood defines me, and I know it defines a lot of mothers out there. I love to highlight motherhood and the beautiful love that a mother shares with her little one(s). I love to make you as my 'clients' my friends (ask all of the people I've worked with).
Don't hesitate to reach out to me! I love to chat, I would love to meet and again, thank you for stopping by!
